In the past four years, the Bastrop County Bar Association has presented four plays, namely, "The Shootout in Cedar Creek: The State of Texas vs. Orange W. Wicks", "State of Texas v. Jeff Fitzpatrick", "An 1883 Christmas in McDade: A lynching, a gunfight and a murder trial", and "A Trial That Never Was: The Shooting of Richard Armstrong Shirley" at the Bastrop Opera House. These performances are held to assist in raising funds for the Bastrop County Bar Association Scholarship Fund. Each year the Association offers scholarships to senior high school students residing in Bastrop County. Due to the success of the Association's fundraising the scholarships have been increased from $1,000 to $2,000 (with the recipient receiving $1,000 during their first academic year and $1,000 in their second academic year).
